Developing a Custom Protocol
for the SMP Substation Gateways:
A Cost-Effective Alternative to Replacing Legacy Equipment
Our SMP product development group is continuously improving Cybectec's
protocol technology and increasing the number of supported devices. Most of
the popular devices and protocols in the power industry are thus currently
supported, or planned for.
If you have invested in a type of device that is not currently supported or
planned for the in near future, our custom software and consulting group can
develop a protocol component to meet your requirements.
Benefits of Developing a Custom
Protocol Component
Cybectec protocol components are an integral part of the SMP product
architecture and provide you with a cost-effective, step-by-step, migration
path for your existing equipment. Using the SMP, you can easily integrate
legacy RTUs and devices in a modern automation station. Alternatively, you
can use the SMP to integrate new modern IEDs in your existing legacy control
system.
All Cybectec protocol components provide the following basic capabilities—
- Support for all required protocol features
- TCP/IP, RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 Multidrop serial links, when
applicable
- Passthru communications mode for device maintenance and configuration
- Redundant communications links support, when applicable
- Hot-standby device redundancy support, when applicable
- Time stamping and data quality
- Device time synchronization
As a part of the SMP architecture, all protocol components are supported by
Cybectec's SMP Tools—
- Detailed communication statistics, using SMP Stats
- Detailed data exchange traces at the communications link level, the
protocol exchange level, and the internal data update level, using SMP
Trace
- Easy to set up, template-based configuration, using SMP Config
- Local automation services, using the Automation Functions option or
the IEC-6113-compatible Soft PLC.
Developing a custom SMP protocol component is a cost-effective alternative
to replacing legacy equipment.
