Cooper Power Systems Announces its Cannon Demand
Management Solution Selected by Baltimore Gas and Electric
A Demand Management solution that will enable over 600
megawatts of clean energy capacity by 2011
Houston, February 20, 2008 - Cooper Power Systems, a division of
Cooper Industries, Ltd. (NYSE: CBE), announced today that it has been
selected by Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), a subsidiary of
Constellation Energy, to provide a system for peak demand reduction designed
for BGE’s residential customers. The Cannon Demand Management solution,
which is a product of Cooper Power System’s Energy Automation Solutions (EAS)
group, supports a number of BGE goals including ensuring system reliability
and helping customers manage their energy use. Cooper expects the project
will represent $42 million in revenue over the period 2008-2011—and when
expanded to full capacity, it will provide more than 600 megawatts of clean
energy capacity by 2011.
Cooper Power Systems’ EAS group is providing BGE a solution comprised of
its Yukon® enterprise software, along with a combination of state-of-the-art
smart thermostats and control switches utilizing a wireless communications
system.

utility customers in improving service reliability while providing clean
energy and reducing customer bills,” said Cooper Power Systems President
Mike Stoessl, “The Cannon Demand Management solution will support the
combined needs of BGE and EmPOWER Maryland (the State’s energy consumption
reduction initiative) - satisfying their common goal to reduce energy use
and provide bill savings to the end consumer.”
“BGE selected the Cannon Demand Management solution after a thorough
evaluation process,” said William Pino, Director of electricity supply and
forecasting for BGE. “BGE announced its Smart Energy Savers ProgramSM in
January of 2007, and during the summer successfully piloted the residential
demand response program to support a reduction in peak electric demand usage
and energy conservation efforts. BGE’s Smart Energy Savers ProgramsSM is a
customer-focused service tailored to give residential consumers more options
for managing their energy costs. The program includes several initiatives
such as Cannon’s Demand Management solution utilizing smart thermostats and
air conditioner load control switches, energy efficiency/conservation
programs (such as rebates for energy efficient appliances and discounts for
compact florescent light bulbs) and advanced metering (smart meters) to
facilitate dynamic pricing options for our customers.”
